Revamping School Bus Safety: Innovative Upgrades to Protect Our Children

Updated: Sep 26

School buses are a necessity for so many families with children, but their safety features have not seen significant updates in decades. The introduction of the stop sign in 1939 was a crucial step, but despite its clear signal to drivers, tragic accidents still occur due to vehicles passing illegally.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports a staggering 43 million illegal passes of school buses annually in the United States alone.

At BusGates, we’re also parents, deeply concerned about this issue our children face every day they board a school bus. It’s why we banded together to create a simple solution.

Our Stop Arm Extensions are retractable barriers that extend from the school bus, enhancing the visibility of the stop sign and helping to ensure drivers stop as required.

As concerned parents, we must advocate for these enhancements in school bus safety. The legacy of the stop sign shows us how simple yet effective measures can safeguard our children's lives. Together, we can make a difference and help ensure our kids get to and from school safely every day.
